Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 1, 2012, at Collier-Butler Chapel for Steve Allen Smith, 62, Gadsden, who died Wednesday, March 28, 2012, at Riverview Regional Medical Center. The Rev. Eugene Burgess will officiate. Burial will follow at Pilgrim's Rest Cemetery with Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services directing.
Steve was a member of South Gadsden Baptist Church and was employed with Baker Piano in Gadsden for 42 years. He was a member of the Gadsden Amateur Radio Club and the National Association for Amateur Radio, call sign WB4NBP. Steve loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was an avid fan of the Alabama Crimson Tide football team. Steve was a lifelong resident of Gadsden and Etowah County and was a 1967 graduate of Emma Sansom High School.
He is survived by his mother, Mildred Hill Smith, Gadsden; brother, Larry Smith, Gadsden; sister, Sherry Davis and her husband, Mel, of Erving, Texas; nephew, Bryan Ellis and his father, Robert Ellis.
Steve was preceded in death by his father, Euell James Smith Jr.; grandparents, Euell James Smith Sr., Maisy Smith, Ira Price Hill and Mary Ollie Hill.
Pallbearers will be Tim Smith, Jimmy Wilks, John Wilks, Joseph Cole, Bobby Smith, Kenneth Walker, Dewan Brown and Derrick Morgan.
Honorary pallbearers will be Travis Cox, Robert Smith and the employees of Baker Piano Company.
Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society .
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 this evening at Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services.
