S.R. “Bob” Gore, 90, died Tuesday, October 29, 2013, surrounded by his family. Funeral will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 1, 2013 and visitation will be held from 12:30-2:00 prior to the service at Collier-Butler Funeral Home. Rev. Darrell Brown, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be at Crestwood Cemetery. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services is directing.
Mr. Gore was born to Walter and Hattie Gore of Beulah Community in Boaz in 1923. He served in the US Army Corp of Military Police and was chosen as an Honor Guard for the viewing and Funeral of President Franklin D. Roosevelt. He worked at Goodyear for 43 years in the Final Inspection Department. He was a long-time member of Calvary Baptist Church and loved and was faithful to his Lord, his family, and his church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Selena Martin Gore; parents; brothers, Harley, Edward, and James Gore; and sister, Bernice Studdard.
He is survived by his daughters, Linda McLendon and Carole (Robert) Nichols; grandchildren, Dueff (Rhonda) Smith, Melissa Smith, Meredith Smith, Jake Nichols, and Jessica Nichols; great-grandsons, Tristan Smith, Landon Smith, and Brennen Smith; brother, Wayne Gore; sisters, Maureen Nix, Betty Brannum, Mary Ouinn, Frances Todd, and Marj Black; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be son-in-law, grandsons, and nephews.
Honorary pallbearers will be great-grandsons.
A very special thank you to Dr. H. B. Thompson and the nurses and staff of the 9th floor Stroke Center at Gadsden Regional Medical Center.
