He was a lifelong resident of Hokes Bluff. He graduated from Hokes Bluff High School in 1970 and attended Gadsden State Community College. He has worked in the insurance and finance industry for 47 years and was looking forward to retiring in two weeks.
He was preceded in death by his father. L.J. Johnson, his loving grandparents, Hoyt and Aleatha Eubanks, his mother and father-in-law, Paul and Jean Weathington, and a host of other beloved relatives.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Yolanda (Londa) Johnson, his loving daughters and the “lights of his life,” Dara Frances Johnson of Hokes Bluff, January Johnson Millican and son-in-law, Jacob Millican; his two adoring grandchildren who have given him so much joy, Bryant and Avah Millican, his mother, Jean Eubanks, and his aunt, Gwen Coffman and a host of cousins.
Ron was a community minded person. He was much more than just the typical Alabama fan that the public saw. He was a charter member of Cross Creek Community Church, where he was a member, and a charter member of Brierwood Hills Baptist Church. He was ordained as a deacon while at Brierwood Hills.
He was also a charter member of the now defunct Hokes Bluff Jaycees back in the 1970s. He was a member and secretary of Hokes Bluff Masonic Lodge #470 and was a Past Master. He once served on the Board of Directors with the Alabama Masonic Home. He was a member and served on the Board of Directors of the Northeast Alabama Red Elephant Club. He and Londa had been season ticket holders at Alabama football games for 19 years and rarely missed a game. He and several men enjoyed eating lunch together and he loved his “Lunch Bunch.”
He was community minded, whether it was working at golf tournaments, playing Santa Claus in the Hokes Bluff Christmas Parade, helping at Sunflower Farm Day, once working at Super Bowl Sunday dinners at HBHS or any activity anyone ever asked him to do, rarely saying no. He may have been late, but he was always a dependable soul.
He enjoyed his family more than anything. He and Londa enjoyed traveling and was fortunate enough to see and enjoy many places. They were able to have many unique experiences in their travels.

We would like to sincerely thank the Gadsden Regional Emergency room staff and especially Dr. Vann, and the doctors who took such great care and showed such compassion in the MICU, Dr. Higgins, Dr. Warren, Dr. Kaleem, and Dr. Masood. We are indebted to the nurses in the MICU, who are true heroes, especially Oakley Patterson for taking such care of our husband, daddy, son, and “Poppem.” They don’t get enough credit for what they do, risking their own health to help COVID 19 patients.
Because of this pandemic and out of town relatives, we are live-streaming it on Collier-Butler Funeral Home’s Facebook page. Follow the link at the time of Service.
We will ask that everyone who attends social distance by wearing masks and spacing apart. We don’t want anyone to go through this experience.
He will never be forgotten and will always be in our hearts. Let’s imagine Ronnie in Heaven living this quote from a Harry Potter book, “After all, death to the organized mind is but the next adventure.”
