Funeral services for Mr. Robert Fussell, age 73, of Gadsden, will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, December 16, 2012, at Collier-Butler chapel. Burial will follow at Williams-Southside Memorial Park with Dr. Craig Carlisle, Rev. Don Young, and Rev. Wallace McDuffie officiating. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services directing.
Mr. Fussell died Friday, December 14, 2012.
He was a native of Chattanooga, TN, but had lived in Alabama for the last 40 years. Mr. Fussell was a Language Specialist for the U.S. Air Force. He was an active member of 12th Street Baptist Church and also served as Sunday School teacher at Hopkins Mission. He was a Manna Volunteer at Riverview Regional Medical Center and also a volunteer at Gadsden Regional Medical Center. He was employed with Aflac for 24 years. Mr. Fussell was a man of great integrity and possessed a very generous and loving heart. His greatest joy was to entertain family and friends for food and fellowship. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
Mr. Fussell was preceded in death by his parents, Leland and Frances Fussell.
He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Jean Fussell; daughters, Susan Fussell Williams, Kelli (Don) Davis, Deidra (Steve) Arrington, Suzanne (Bruce) Latta, and Kristi (Tucker) Harless; sons, John (Julie) Fussell, Jeff (Tammy) Fussell, Judd (Jolynn) Fussell, and Brad Fussell; 14 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; brothers, Michael (Beverly) Fussell of Hendersonville, TN, and David (Sharon) Fussell of Chattanooga, TN; sister, Betty Ann Fussell of Lilburn, GA; and several nieces and nephews.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Thompson, Palmer Rowe, Jim Hicks, Ronald Palmer, Kip Williams, and his Sunday School class at Hopkins Mission.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Will Harless, Isaac Williams, Jackson Fussell, Derek Fussell, Austin Fussell, and Alex Fussell.
In lieu of flowers, memorials will be made to the 12th Street Baptist Church Building Fund.
The family will receive friends from 1-3 p.m. on Sunday prior to the service at the funeral home.
