Peggy A. Gillam, born December 5, 1931, died on July 25, 2015, after a brief illness. Peggy was a woman of many talents, including art and singing. She loved to travel, cook, and visit with her friends.
Mrs. Gillam was active in the Gadsden community for many years. She was a past member of the Gadsden Art Association, past president and board member for the Gadsden Museum of Art, past member of the First United Methodist Church choir, Member of the State Board for of the Arts & Humanities.
Mrs. Gillam was predeceased by her husband, Henry Grady Gillam Jr.; parents, Earcy C. Alldredge and Clairce Pruett Alldredge; brothers E. Don Alldredge and Sammie Joe Alldredge. She is survived by her daughter, Jean Clare Michaels and husband Willis Alexander “Alex” Michaels, III; and by her son, Henry “Hank” Grady Gillam, III and his wife Diane; and grandchildren Henry Grady Gillam, IV and Sarah Emory Gillam; as well as additional family members and close friends.
Pallbearers will be: Hal Isabel, Gil Isabel, Gordon Isbell III, Barron Latta, Gates Little, Alex Michaels, Ken Michaels, and Dave Jensen.
Honorary pall bearers: Paul Meloun, Charles Cantrell, Col. Harry Lombard, and her valiant medical team Dr. Karl Peter Uy, Dr. Marian Mannakill, Dr. Mazen Hakim, and Dr. Lucien Newman, Jr. The family is grateful for the excellent care provided by the nurses and staff of Riverview Hospital, in particular the nurses of CCU, Glen, Lisa, Becky, and LeeAnn.
The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 28, 2015 at Collier-Butler Chapel with burial to follow at Forrest Cemetery.
Officiating the service will be Rev. Harvey Beck. Music by Benny McNair and Cecil Knowles. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services will direct.
