Norma Ree Hood Panell, born November 5th, 1939 to H. Denmon Hood and Marguerite Elizabeth Smith, passed peacefully on October 31st, 2023, just 5 days before her 84th birthday. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 2nd at 2:00 at Collier Butler Funeral Home, with visitation at 1:00. Burial to follow at Crestwood Cemetery. A reception to celebrate Norma’s life will begin at 3:00 at the Shrine Club in Gadsden.
Norma spent most of her working career in many of the flower shops around the county, including owning Rainbow Flower Shop for over 10 years. She also spent her time volunteering for the VFW in a local, state, and national capacity. Norma loved gardening, and could make almost anything grow. She loved with a passion, especially her family that she held so dear.
Norma is preceded in death by her parents and her husband Joseph L Panell Sr. She is survived by her son, Joe Panell, and daughter Judy Elkins (Tommy); brother Benny Hood, and sister Terri Noojin (Kenny); grandchildren Carri Hill (Owen), Marcus Panell, TJ Elkins (Krystle), and Austin Panell (Sarah); great grandchildren Calin, Tyler, Cassius, Sawyer, Warner, and Jordan; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Chris Smith, Austin Panell, Calin Collins, Tyler Collins, Jeff Albright, and David Hood.
Honorary Pallbearers employees of Oak Landing Assisted Living Facility and members of the VFW and Ladies Auxiliary.
A big thank you to Center Well Home Health and Gentiva Hospice who took great care of Norma and her family.
