Myra Thornton Smith

Funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm Thursday, January 6, 2011 at First Baptist Church of Gadsden for Mrs. Myra Thornton Smith. 88, of Gadsden who passed away Sunday, January 2, 2011. Rev. Larry Fuhrman and Dr. Charles Hetzler will officiate. Burial will be at Forrest Cemetery. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Service directing.

Myra was a member of First Baptist Church of Gadsden, active in WMU, Sanctuary Choir and Seniors Choir. She also was the organist at Dwight Baptist Church for many years.

She is preceded by her husband Grover C. Smith, Jr.; parents, Sam and Pearl Thornton; sister, Mabel Barnes.

Myra is survived by her sons, Gary (Cheryl) Smith, Paul (Jan) Smith; grandchildren, Drew (Haley) Smith, Brett (Sarah) Smith, Kimberly (Paul) McGowan, Karen (Chuck) Hetzler, Greg (Erin) Smith, Clay Smith, Dana, Rob, Ryan and Cole Nichols; 10 great grandchildren; sisters, Laura Nell Lipscomb, Leatha Nabors and a host of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 11:30 am until 1:00 pm at the First Baptist Church of Gadsden.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Gadsden Music program.
