A celebration of the life and memorial service will be held for Michael Kerwin Probyn, age 79, of Gadsden, on Sunday March 9, at 2:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, Gadsden. The Reverend Harvey Beck will officiate.
Michael passed away March 6, 2014, after a brief illness. He was a native of Newbury Berkshire, England, but resided in Gadsden most of his adult life.
He was preceded in death by his parents Leo and Louisa Probyn. He was a veteran of the British Army and served in Egypt and India prior to immigrating to the United States in 1958. Friends and family were accustomed to hearing him proudly say that he was an American citizen by CHOICE.
Michael enjoyed a successful advertising career for many years with his agency Probyn Marketing and Development. In later years he chose to devote his time and talents to calligraphy and pen and ink artwork commissions.
Left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife Patricia; children Kim Mills, Kim, Cindy, and Chad Edwards; grandchildren, Benjamin and Baliegh; brother, Don Probyn; sister, Betty Thomas of Colchester, England; nieces, Betty (Tom) McDermott, Sarah (Frank) Ernest, Claire (Bill) Herder, of Newberry, England, and a host of dear friends.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Ralph Wesley, his primary care physician, and the NICU staff at UAB Hospital for their excellent care during his illness.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the First United Methodist Church, Gadsden, 20/20 Vision Campaign.
