However, I consider my life worth nothing to me: my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me—the task of testifying to the good news of God’s grace (Acts 20:24).

She always maintained that her greatest treasures in life called her “Nanny”! They are her survivors sons Ron Dickson, Gadsden, Tommy Dickson, Auburn, daughters Cherie (Joe) Metz, Gadsden, and Renee’ (Rick) Kemp, Gadsden. Grandchildren are Misty Kemp Parker (Jason), Tiki Kemp, Brandi Edwards (Ezra), Lauren Dickson, Will Dickson, DJ Metz, and Gabrielle Metz. She has eight Great Grandchildren Luke Parker, Bo Parker, Riley Parker, Maegan Dorsett, Bella Shrader, Charlee Kate Shrader, Isla Edwards and Adeline Edwards. She cherished them all. Brother, Walter Lee (Martha) Henderson, Dothan and sisters Toni (Dewey) Burger and Phyllis Moore. She had several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hobart Lee Henderson, and Betty Barksdale, George Roberson (husband), Hoyt Henderson (brother), and Doris McBurnett (sister).
She accepted Christ as her Savior many years ago and was a faithful member of Twelfth Street Baptist serving at Hopkins Chapel where she taught children’s Sunday School and worked in years past in the Day Care. She was known and loved by all as Nanny. When she left the Day Care she had the wonderful opportunity to keep several of her grandchildren helping to nurture them and teach them about Jesus. Her grandchildren were her heart and joy. There’s no denying that, her Grand babies as she called them, were the people that she loved the most. To quote one of her dear friends (Jane Nichols) “her grandchildren didn’t visit her because they felt it an obligation, they visited her because they wanted some hugs and love from one who loved them with all her heart”!
Her signature gift of joy, shown through her constant smiling, laughter, and joking around, will never be forgotten.
A favorite quote of our mother found in her Bible was:
Watch your thoughts; they become words,
Watch your words; they become actions,
Watch your actions; they become habits,
Watch your habits; they become your character,
Watch your character; it becomes your destiny.
