Martha Jane Hammonds Ragsdale, 72, Gadsden, went home to be with her Lord on Thursday, May 26, 2016. A celebration service honoring her life will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Cathedral of Praise with the Rev. Mike Hammonds officiating. The family will receive friends two hours prior to service on Tuesday. Collier-Butler is directing. Burial will be in Rainbow Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Ragsdale is survived by children, Jay (Tammy) Cole, David Cole, Connie McWhorter, Angela (Jimmy) Newbourn; grandchildren, Brittany (Joseph) Boyd, Breonna Cole, Cory Cole, Brandon (Cara) Cole, Haley Talley, Bridgett (David) Whitney, Chris (LaShay) McWhorter, Kandise (Jared) Loyd and Summer Hamilton; great-grandchildren, Layla Boyd, Halen and Lakota Cole, Harrison and Ellis Loyd, La Bella Mcwhorter, Jayden Talley, Mckayla, Braylon and Kaydon Cole; sisters, Elouise (Kenneth) McGlaughn, Pat Hammonds; brothers, Tommy Hammonds, Mike (Linda) Hammonds, Max (Tina) Hammonds; special friend, Francis Love.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Wayne Ragsdale; parents, Martin L. and Estelle Hammonds; sisters, Betty Mae Gourdine, Valerie Smith; and sister-in-law, Ruth Sizemore Hammonds.
Mrs. Ragsdale was born in Gadsden and retired from Etowah County Health Department and Riverview Hospital with more than 30 years of service caring for others. She was a loving and devoted mother to all her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and had devoted the last 10 years of her life taking care of her son, David. We miss you but will see you again in heaven. We love you Shan!
