A visitation will take place at Collier-Butler Funeral Home from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday. A graveside service for family and friends will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Rose Hill Cemetery in Tallassee, Ala.
Lila was best known as co-owner of Nelson's Variety Store on Broad Street. After selling the family store, Lila kept busy by working as a day care worker at Rainbow Academy. In her life, Lila never met a stranger and her kind heart was open to anyone who needed a helping hand. Many came to know Lila from her time as a volunteer at the Salvation Army.
Lila was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 51 years, Clyde Nelson.
She is survived by her children, Andy (Sonja), of Texas, Glenn (Sue), of Alabama, Mark (Maria), of Texas, Bill (Barbara), of Texas, Jeanie (Mark), of Texas, Michael (Kim), of Alabama; 15 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a multitude of cherished family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society or the Salvation Army.
