Lee Roy (fondly known as Shorty) was a long-time employee of Bowman Transportation and Osborn Transportation, Inc. He was an avid gardener, and his green thumb was the envy of the neighborhood. He enjoyed teaching many others the finer points of growing all kinds of vegetables. He loved small engine repair and was a social butterfly who never met a stranger. Lee Roy was always quick with a joke and a story and was always ready and willing to share his hard-earned wisdom. He was a member of Carnes Baptist Church.
Lee Roy was preceded in death by his mother, Ola Smith; father, R.D. Smith; brother, Pat Smith; and son, Michael Smith.
Lee Roy is survived by his wife, Frankie Smith; daughters, Renee Moon (Bobby), and Cindy Johnson (Mike); grandchildren, Dale Lyles, Greg Smith, Eric Smith, Carly Gonzalez, Zach Johnson, and Caitlin Cook; great grandchildren, Dylan Lyles, Hayden Lyles, Alayna Smith, Kaleigh Smith, Sean Smith, Chloe Cook, Ryder Gonzalez, River Gonzalez, Ari Gonzalez, Mila Gonzalez, and Talen Gonzalez.
The family wishes to express a special thanks to Kindred Hospice, and Regina Martin.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, August 10, 2022, at Collier-Butler Chapel. Dr. Van Lockridge will officiate. Burial will follow at Pilgrims Rest Cemetery in Southside, AL. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services is in charge of arrangements.
The family will accept friends from 1:00 PM until the hour of the service at the funeral home on Wednesday.
