Juanita was born on July 5, 1938 in Horry County, South Carolina. She attended school in Green Sea, South Carolina and later received her Associates Degree in Cosmetology from Gadsden State Community College.
Juanita took great pride in her work as a cosmetologist. She had a passion for people in nursing homes and assisted living facilities who needed human interaction and a feeling of normalcy. She used her ability to set, style, and cut as a ministry to bring them a little bit of happiness.
Even more important to her was her work as missionary. She served alongside her husband, David, for over 46 years. Her ministry was felt in many different countries around the world - most notably in Mexico, Nigeria, and Latvia. To Juanita, there was no greater joy than to share the Gospel of Christ with someone.
She is preceded in death by her parents Harry and Elizabeth Benton, her son Ronnie (Buddy), sister Ruby Lee Goble, sister Geneva Hayes, sister Elizabeth Moss, brother Jesse Benton, brother William Benton, and brother Burnis Benton (Tinker).
She is survived by her husband David Johnson, daughter Diane (Jack) Balsley of Indian Land, South Carolina, Gregory (Zoya) Johnson of Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, Jonathan (Candace) Johnson of Pensacola, Florida, eleven grandchildren, brother Harry Benton Jr. of Nakina, North Carolina, brother Kenneth Benton of Nakina, North Carolina, brother Bill (Sue) Benton of Hartsville, South Carolina, brother Steven (Sue) Benton of Whiteville, North Carolina, brother Kevin (Susie) Benton of Hartsville, South Carolina, Brother-in-law George Shaw of Gadsden, Alabama, sister-in-law Ramona (Sam) Nash of Kent, Washington, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The Johnson family would like to express a special thanks to Southern Care New Beacon for their kind and loving care in the final weeks of Juanita’s life. To everyone at SCNB, but especially Shirley and Emily, thank you for your compassion and tireless care of Juanita.
