A visitation for Joyce will be held Tuesday, April 9, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Collier-Butler Funeral Home, Rainbow Drive, Gadsden, AL 35901, followed by a funeral service at 12:00 PM. Brother Chris Terrell will officiate.
She will be laid to rest in Forrest Cemetery, Gadsden, AL.
Joyce graduated from Etowah High School and Holy Name of Jesus Nursing School. She worked as an RN for many years, mainly at Republic Steel/Gulf States Steel, then at the county health department. She truly had a calling and a passion for nursing. Joyce loved her church, White Springs Baptist, and served in many ways over the years including Sunday School teacher, training union teacher, and choir member. She loved watching the Waltons and Downton Abbey. Mother loved her five children immensely, with all her heart, and found great enjoyment in spending time with them and with her many grandchildren. Our dear mother will be greatly missed, but we take joy in the fact that she is no longer in pain and is reunited with her loved ones in Heaven. We have peace knowing we will see her again one day.
Preceding her in death was her Husband James C. Stanley, parents Herschel and Cecil Mae Rickard, and brother Charles Edward (Bubba) Rickard.
She is survived by her children Rick (Ruth-Ellen) Thompson, Eric (Rhonda) Thompson, Beth (Michael) Herring, Elaine (Terry) Gray, Amy (Phillip) Barron. Grandchildren James, Andrew, Jon, Ryan, Emily, Anna, Tanner, Tyler, Madison, Macy, and six great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be James Thompson, Jon Thompson, Ryan Thompson, Tanner Gray, Tyler Gray, Danny Rickard, Tristan Kirk.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to White Springs Baptist Church.
Special thanks to MICU Gadsden Regional, Fresenius Attalla, Encompass Rehab, Regency Pointe, and special friends Charlene and Shirley.
