Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 29. 2011 at Collier-Butler Funeral Home for Mr. Jimmy E. Higdon, age 76, of Glencoe, who passed away Tuesday, April 26, 2011. Rev. Bruce Jenkins will officiate with burial at Crestwood Cemetery. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Service directing.
Mr. Higdon was a member of Goodyear Heights Baptist Church and Eagle Scouts. He was an avid outdoorsman and especially enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren dearly. Jimmy was known as “Goongie” by friends and family and was also known as “Immy” by his great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Froy and Chloie Higdon; wife, Patsy Barnett Higdon; son, Captain Troy Higdon; grandson, John Bryan Higdon, Jr.; brother, John Nicholas Higdon; and sisters, Gladys Perryloux and Deloris Bruno.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Earlene Higdon; sons, John Bryan (Cassandra) Higdon and Jimmy (Vickie) Higdon, Jr.; grandchildren, Jamie Higdon (Brent) Barber, Troy Earl Higdon, Jr., Vincent Higdon and Chad Higdon; special granddaughter, Stacie (Jason) Causey; great grandchildren, Hylan Higdon, Kaylee Higdon, Gavin Barber and Riley Higdon; brother, Donald Wayne Higdon; sister, Jackie Kates; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Jimmy Higdon’s Great Grandchildren’s Fund at Regions Bank.
The family would like to express a special thanks to Dr. John Wilborn and staff, Hughes Pharmacy and staff, Dr. Head, Dr. Kwan, the 7th floor nurses and cath lab nurses at Gadsden Regional Medical Center, especially, Breanne Gamblin, Crissa Clark and Lea Stepleton.
Visitation will be held Friday from 12:00 p.m. until service time at Collier-Butler.
