Martha Jean (Jeanie) Weaver Tucker passed away at home on Monday February 19, 2024, surrounded by her family. Jeanie has been deeply and fiercely loved all of her ninety years. She was born to the Rev. Edgar Edwin Weaver and Amanda Pearl Wheeler Weaver on September 9, 1933, in Shelbyville, Indiana. She was the adored baby girl lovingly called Jeanie, the youngest of four, in a Christian home filled with love and laughter. Her father was a Baptist minister and as such, they moved to Tuscaloosa, Birmingham, and before Jeanie’s senior year in high school, to Opp, Alabama. That is where she met the handsome, red-headed love of her life, Bennett. They dated, then married April 10, 1954, and would have celebrated their 70th anniversary in April. They both attended Troy State University for two years, then moved to Tuscaloosa. While there, Jeanie earned her PHT (Putting Hubby Through) at the University of Alabama and became a lifelong Crimson Tide fan. Their son, Bennett Tucker, Jr. (Chip) and their daughter, Amanda were born during the their days in Tuscaloosa. After graduation, they moved to Montgomery, where daughter Traci was born. Subsequently, they moved to Gadsden, where they have been active members of MeadowBrook Baptist Church for over 50 years. In all the places they lived, they have made life-long friends.
It is difficult to think of Jeanie without also thinking of her beloved husband, Bennett. From the day they were married, they have always been thought of fondly as Jeanie and Bennett, Mama and Daddy, and Maw and Paw.
Jeanie will be remembered as a gracious, generous, happy, caring, funny lady with a sharp wit, strong in her convictions and beliefs. Oh, how she loved her family and friends. She was always loving, loyal and protective of her three children, her eight grandchildren and her nine great-grandchildren. Her home was always welcoming, usually with a fresh pot of coffee and something delicious to eat. She truly and unabashedly loved her Lord, her family and her church. To know her was to truly love her.
She is survived by her husband, Bennett D. Tucker. Sr., her son Dr. Bennett D. Tucker, Jr. (Dr. Susan), her daughter Amanda Tucker Cabaniss (Dewayne), and her daughter Traci Tucker Dewar (Chuck). She is also survived by her grandchildren Christian Tucker (Lindsey), Carey Tucker (Brittany), Haley Tucker Bailey (Will), Patrick Schell (Diana), Alex Schell (Holly), Derek Dewar (Jessica), Chad Dewar, Jeanie Cabaniss, and her great-grandchildren Maddie Tucker, Drew Tucker, Ellis Tucker, Mary Cameron Tucker, Warren Bailey, Savannah Schell, Sawyer Schell, Gavin Dewar, and Emma Dewar. Also surviving are brother-in-law Nelson Tucker, sister-in-law and dear friend, Betsy Tucker and sister-in-law Dr. Mary Tucker. Survivors also include several nephews, nieces, grand nephews and nieces, and great-grand nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Edgar E. and Pearl Weaver, her brother Crawford Weaver, Tuscaloosa; sister Marie Weaver Bishop, Birmingham; and her sister Bonnie Weaver Alford, Austin, Texas.
Pallbearers are her grandsons Christian Tucker, Carey Tucker, Patrick Schell, Alex Schell, Derek Dewar, and Chad Dewar; Will Bailey and Will Pierce.
The family would like to thank special friend and caregiver Terry Keenum, and the staff of Aveanna Hospice.
A celebration service of a life well-lived will be held Sunday, 25 February at 3:00 p.m. at MeadowBrook Baptist Church, with visitation preceding from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Reverend Randy Gunter and Reverend Mike Neimi will officiate. Burial will be at Williams-Southside Memorial Gardens.
