Ms. Semrick was preceded in death by her parents, George and Tommie Elizabeth Semrick; sister, June F. George; brother, James E. Semrick; sister-in-law, Eileen M. Semrick, and brother-in-law, Edward B. George.
She is survived by her loving nieces and nephews, Janice (Chuck) Shockey, Linda (Steve Higdon) George, Thomas (Sharon) George, Mary (Mark) Parker, Jim (Denise)Semrick and Ina (Daryl) Taylor; great nieces and nephews, Chuck, Cameron and Courtney Shockey, Rachel Faye George, John and Amanda Parker, Rebecca, Jimmy, Matthew and Michael Semrick and Hannah, Seth and Jacob Taylor.
Ms. Semrick was born on August 12, 1943. She attended St. James Catholic School and is a 1961 graduate of Gadsden High School. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Biology from Jacksonville State University in 1965. She completed a degree in Medical Record Administration from Emory University in 1966. She also earned a Master of Arts in Health Care Administration from Central Michigan University in 1984.
Her career spanned over 30 years as the Director of Medical Records at both the Gadsden Regional Hospital and DeKalb General Hospital. During this time, she also held several state and regional offices related to her profession. She was the President, Secretary and Treasurer of the Alabama Medical Records Association, President of Southeastern Medical Records Association, Organizer and Founder of the Northeast Alabama Medical Records Association, where she also served as Secretary, Vice-President and President, Program Chairperson of the Alabama Medical Record Association and President of the Etowah County Mental Health Association.
Ms. Semrick was a devout Catholic and lifelong member of St James Catholic Church. Her greatest joy was in serving as a devoted volunteer at her beloved parish. She has also served as Secretary of the St. James Parish Council, Altar Minister and member both of the Catholic Women’s Club and of the Catholic Ladies Sodality Club.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Father Jose Chacko and the parishioners of St. James Catholic church, Mike Grieco, Gary Szanny, Kristi Graham and her Reece City neighbors and friends for their support and kindness.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Janet’s life on Monday, February 27 at St. James Catholic Church in Gadsden. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by Mass at 12:00 p.m.
