James D. Nelson

James D. Nelson, 83, of Gadsden, AL passed away on Friday, December 29, 2023. Funeral service will be at 1:00pm on Thursday, January 4, 2024 at Collier-Butler Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 11:00AM until the hour of the service at the funeral home. Rev. Larry Garrard and Rev. Phillip Elliot will officiate. Burial will follow at Crestwood cemetery.

James was a 1959 graduate of Emma Samson High School and a member of the Rebel Band. He was a 1976 graduate of Jacksonville State University and retired in 2001 from American General Life Insurance Company. He was a member of Cherry Street Baptist Church.

James was preceded in death by parents, Leitha and J.D. Nelson; baby brother, Charles Wayne Nelson; mother and father-in-law, Dot and Marion Davis; and much-loved brother-in-law, Max Davis.

James is survived by his wife and best friend of 60 years, Judy Davis Nelson; precious cat, Molly; aunt, Betty Walker; and numerous cousins. Chosen family is Steve and Stacey Holcomb and Barry and Louise Williamson.

Pallbearers will be Scott Ryan, Gary Ryan, Dave Tidwell, Mike Burns, David O’Neal, Rick O’Neal, Jason Wolf, and Joey Nance.

Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Chery Street Baptist Church, 512 Cleveland Avenue, Attalla, AL 35954.

James has finished the race and in now at home with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and is totally healed.
