It is with hope-filled hearts that we announce the passing of a true hero, Christ follower, loving husband and father, pastor, counselor and dear friend to many—Dr. Gregory Allen Elkins. Greg’s life will leave a lasting imprint on all who knew him, and send echos of healing and freedom through generations to come. His relentless pursuit of the presence of the Lord has finally been satisfied for eternity.
Just one moment with Greg would make evident his deep love for the Lord, unconditional and immediate love for people, and his desire for all to experience God’s love personally. Greg was, amongst many things, an overcomer. From humble beginnings and countless hardships, he arose to answer the call of God on his life to know Jesus and make Him known. Greg dedicated his entire adult life to this call. Whether it was street ministry or evangelism, marriage and family counseling or intercessory prayer, pastoring the local church or traveling worldwide for missions, teaching his kids to study God’s Word or training countless ministers, it was all done in the name of and to the glory of his Great God.
Married to the love of his life, Kathy Elkins, for nearly 40 years, this couple set a blueprint for so many others to have a thriving marriage and home. His pride and joy were his children, to whom he gave the greatest magnitude of love, opportunities, dreams, prayers and wisdom. Greg made sure that his home was filled with joyful songs, powerful prayers, incredible food, spontaneous dancing, deep conversation, and people from every walk of life. If there was ever a man whose highest and truest aim was to live and love like Jesus, Greg Elkins was that man.
Dr. Gregory Elkins is lovingly remembered by his wife and best friend, Kathy Elkins; his children and the pride of his life, Nathan (Rachel) Elkins, Rachel (Brent) White, Emily (Matthew) Metz, Hannah Hood, and Michael Elkins; and his grandchildren—Isaiah, Benjamin, Tyler, Zachary, Taylor, Mason, Grant, Mary-Katherine, Roland, Will, Meredith, Mack and Emmett—each of whom held a special place in his heart. He was also blessed with several great-grandchildren.
Gregory is survived by his devoted mother, Faye Walk, and his siblings, Sherry Burch, Jack Walk, Jr., and Tammy Ruesch, along with countless extended and adopted family members with whom he shared a lifetime of memories and love.
Gregory was preceded in death by his beloved son, Jamin Elkins; his precious grandson, Brayden Elkins; his hero and father, King David Elkins; his stepfather, Jack Walk; and his big brother, Gene Elkins, each of whom held a special place in his heart.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at Collier-Butler Funeral Home in Gadsden, AL. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am until the hour of the service at the funeral home.
“Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. Glory to him in the church and in Christ Jesus through all generations forever and ever! Amen.”
