Services for Doris Pruett Jones who passed on Wednesday, January 21, 2015 will be held on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Collier-Butler Chapel. Visitation will be from 12:00 until the hour of service. Reverend Bobby Joe Winningham will officiate. Burial will immediately follow at Crestwood Cemetery in East Gadsden. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Service is directing.
Doris was a native of Gadsden, AL and graduated from Gadsden High School. She went on to attend Gadsden Business College, where she studied secretarial skills. She married the love of her life, G.W. Jones, in Tuscon, AZ while he was serving in the Air Force during World War II. After the war they returned to Gadsden and started their family. In 1958 started their own business, Gadsden Scaffold Company, which was later taken over by their two sons, Brent and Mark. Over the years as the business grew it gave them the opportunity to pursue their real passion, which was to travel the world. Their other passion was their four grandchildren and spending as much time with them as possible. Doris was the picture of the perfect grandmother, and loved nothing better than to make them happy. To theis day nobody can make pancakes as well as Grandmother Doris.
Just a few year before her husband’s death, Doris developed Alzheimer’s disease which slowly robbed her of her beautiful memories. Even as G.W. battled Leukemia his main focus was to make sure Doris was cared for properly. Over the past ten years she has been under the care of many different caregivers, however, we will be eternally grateful for the around the clock care given by Barbara Anthony, Sommer Ramos, and Becky Steward. We would also to thank the wonderful nurses and staff of Southern Hospice for all their help and support.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dewey C. and Monie Dempsey Pruett; bother Curtis; and husband G.W. Jones.
She is survived by her sisters, Arlene Brown, and Carolyn Wrenn; brothers, Ernest Pruett (Amy Joe) , Tommy Pruett (Betty) and Calvin Pruett (Vivian); sons Brent (JoAnn) and Mark (Karen); grandchildren, Jessica Rintala(Randy), Kathryn , Keegan Powell (Austin), Zachary, Heather; and great grandchildren, Ava, Reagan, Ethan, Reid, Cameron, and Jack; and many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be friends and family.
