Graveside services will be 12:30 p.m. Thursday, February 15, 2018 at Union Hill Methodist Cemetery for Doris Virginia Carnes Combs, age 89, of Gadsden, who passed away Monday, February 12, 2018. Son-in-law, Rev. Jerome Mitchell will officiate. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services directing.
Mrs. Combs was a devoted and loving mother to her children and grandchildren. She was a member of Union Hill Methodist Church and spent most of her life as an Etowah County Resident. Mrs. Combs was a Dog Groomer for over 40 years where Poodles were her specialty. She loved flower gardening and country cooking.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James Glover Carnes of Dallas, GA, Jewell Treadaway McCoy and Clyde McCoy of Gadsden; husband, Ellis Combs of Gadsden; daughters, Phronsie Barfield McDaniel of Gadsden, Sheila Nicholson Walden of Gadsden; great-granddaughter Sierra Walden; sister, Zara Joyce Nash of Gadsden; and nephew, James “Butch” Nash of Gadsden.
Mrs. Combs is survived by her daughters, Moria Nicholson (Jerome) Mitchell of Carrollton, GA, and Deedra Combs (Ron) Solomon of Gadsden; grandchildren, Stephanie McDaniel Lane, John Mitchell, Phillip Mitchell, Matthew (JoAnn) Mitchell, Travis (Brandi) Walden, Joseph (Amber) Walden, Courtney Tilley (Anthony) Funderburg, and Haley Solomon; seven great-grandsons; five great-granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be John Mitchell, Phillip Mitchell, Anthony Funderburg, Travis Walden, Joseph Walden, and Austin Lane.
Special thanks to all of the family and friends who devoted time to her during her last days..
