David Ray Payne, age 73, of Southside, Alabama passed away on Sunday June 23, 2019. David was born January 17, 1946. Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 26, 2019 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Collier Butler Funeral Home; with funeral service following at 7:00 PM at Collier Butler Chapel. Rev. Johnny Johnson and Rev. Michael Yates will officiate. Burial will be at Williams Southside Cemetery.
David would have celebrated 41 years of marriage next month with June Payne. He served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War onboard the USS Constellation. His career was spent driving as an over the road truck driver. Once he retired he enjoyed doing anything outdoors, whether it was hunting or gardening or just riding around on his tractor. He was a member of Gadsden Christian Fellowship.
Preceded in death by parents Winfred and Margaret Payne, brother Chris Payne, and daughter-in-law Dawn Payne.
Survived by wife June; children, David (Carol) Payne, Ken (Leslie) Payne, Barry Payne, Todd Payne, Shanna (Barry) Webb, Dee (Joe) Kocur, and T.Todd Payne;10 grandchildren; 10-3/4 great grandchildren; brother Corky Payne; sister Jane Matlock; sister in law Gina Payne; and nieces and nephews. His best friend Rubble.
Family members will serve as pallbearers.
Honorary Pallbearers are Terry Thornton and Phil Myer.
The family would like to express their special thanks to the nurses and doctors at Noland Hospital and Gadsden Regional ICU nurses.
