Funeral services will be 11:30 am Friday, December 30, 2016 at Collier-Butler Chapel for Charles Edwin Baker, 88, who died Tuesday, December 27, 2016. Rev. Garth Forster will officiate. Burial will be at Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services is directing.
Mr. Baker was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Ealon Braden Baker; sons, Ronald Alan Baker and Arthur Davis Baker; father, Elbert Arthur Baker, Sr.; mother, Erah Arizona Lashley Baker; brothers, Elbert Arthur Baker, Jr. and Olin Ledford Baker; and sister, Dorothy Virginia Baker Loveday.
He is survived by his sons, Barry Kenneth (Carolyn) Baker and Charles Jeffrey (Mu-Yi); grandchildren, Marjorie Alene Dickson, Kristi Marie King, and Brian Keith Baker; 7 great-grandchildren; brother, Bruce Lynwood Baker; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Mr. Baker was born September 16, 1928 in Auburn, AL. His family moved to Roanoke, Al in 1932. He graduated from Handley High School in 1946 and joined the US Navy the same year and served until 1948. He married Marjorie Braden November 14, 1948 and they remained married until her death on April 17, 2008. Mr. Baker worked in the grocery and restaurant industries. He accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior at age 13. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Hokes Bluff. Mr. Baker strongly urged anyone who has not had a personal relationship with Jesus to do so before someone is writing an obituary for them.
