Catherine Donna “Donni” Wadsworth passed away peacefully on Monday, April 15, 2024. Donni was born on June 8, 1950 to her parents Elizabeth (Bette) McCorkle Wadsworth and Lieutenant William McCoy Wadsworth. Lt. Wadsworth died only six months later in the Korean War.
Donni grew up in Gadsden, graduating from Gadsden High School in 1968. She attended Salem College in Winston-Salem, North Carolina and graduated in 1972. Donni was employed in advertising for many years in Atlanta and upon retiring she returned to Gadsden.
The most important aspect of her life was her faith in her Savior. She lived her life so that others could see Christ in her. She was always an encourager to others. In Gadsden she was an active member of First Presbyterian Church and later at Rainbow Presbyterian. She had a servant’s heart and enjoyed volunteering many years at the Etowah Free Clinic. She was a long time member and officer of the Mystery Ball Club and played bridge whenever she found four players and a deck of cards.
Donni adored her family. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Dr. and Mrs. Frank McCorkle and Mr. and Mrs. William McCoy Wadsworth, Sr.; her parents, Lieutenant and Mrs. William McCoy Wadsworth; her mother’s twin, Marcie and her husband Colonel Harry Lombard; and dear cousins, Kathleen Lombard Hendricks, Page Beckert Templeton, and Ann Beckert Heard.
She is survived by her cousins, Warner (Serita) Lombard, Frank Lombard, Clare Gillem (Alex) Michaels; and cousin-in-law, Richard Hendricks.
The family is so very grateful for the constant interest and sweet care provided by Dr. Chip Griffith. His concern for her well being was an absolute gift. Members of Rainbow Presbyterian Church showered her with love and sustained her with kind words and acts. She was truly blessed by their support as they faithfully tended to her needs during her illness.
