Funeral services for Mr. Carl E. Carter, Sr., 96, will be Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at 2:00 pm at Collier-Butler Funeral Home. Rev. Roy Cordle and Bobby Joe Winningham will officiate. Burial will be at Hopewell Cemetery. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Service directing.
Mr. Carter was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Rosie Lee Carter; brothers, Chester, Fred and Ford Carter; sisters, Nettie Moody, Ethel Carter and twin sister Clara Carter.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lucille Carter; son, Carl E. (Juanice) Carter, Jr.; granddaughters, Kristy (Tim) Womack, Gadsden, Charity (Mike) Williams, Mobile, Melody (Andy) Caudle, Rainbow City; great-grandsons, Darrien Caudle and Caleb Womack; special sister-in-law, Elizabeth Carter, Rainbow City; sister-in-law, Norma (Charles) Channel and Jewel Lamb, both of Zellwood,FL, and number of nieces and nephews.
Mr. Carter was a WWII Veteran proudly serving his country in the 7th Calvary C Troop. He retired from Republic Steel after 32 years of service. Mr. Carter enjoyed working in his garden growing vegetables and farmed his whole life. He will be missed by all who he waved to from his front porch as they passed by and those he wished “Have a good day today and I hope you have a better one tomorrow.”
Pallbearers will be Glen Carter, Tim Carter, Gene Carter, Jack Carter, Landon Weldon, Chris Carter, and Jimmy Carter.
Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Riddles Bend Baptist Church, Building Fund, 5574 Riddles Bend Road, Rainbow City, AL 35906.
The Family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Dr. Pugliese, Dr. Rowe, Dr. Reiland, the staff of Alacare Home Health and Hospice especially Lyndsi, Tanya, Suzanne, Lori, Karen P., Karen H., and caregivers, Eloise and Wanda.
The family will receive friends Monday, March 7th from 5-7 pm at Collier-Butler Funeral Home.
