She was born October 7, 1927, in Fulton, the fourth child of Roy Lee Baumgartner and Sarah Katherine Ashlock Baumgartner. On July 11, 1947, she married her forever love, Raymond Hill Miller. Together they shared a beautiful life and served as role models for a happy marriage for 66 years until the passing of Raymond in January 2014.
Katie was a member of Central Christian Church, where she contributed to the education of many by serving as a Sunday school teacher both for children and adults. She was active for many years in Christian Women’s Fellowship and helped to lead the early CCC youth groups; she served as director for one of the first children’s choirs and helped with numerous vacation bible school programs. Katie enjoyed bowling, card games, Sunday drives and picnics. She loved life – and never felt like she had to go far from home to enjoy her days.
Prior to her marriage, she worked as a clerk for the Fulton paper and in Dorothy Carr’s Beauty Salon, where she practiced Cosmetology. For brief periods after her marriage, she baked and sold pies at the Callaway County Sale Barn and also sold Avon. Above all, Katie was a devoted wife and mother. She loved her role as a homemaker and enjoyed supporting Raymond in his work.
Katie’s last years were fulfilled at Dolan Memory Care in St. Louis, Mo, where she continued to enjoy a social, caring environment and knew the joy of being loved by her caregivers – in addition to the continued love of life-long friends and family.
In addition to her husband, Katie was proceeded in death in March 2016, by her first-born daughter, Lynette Rhea Ann Miller. She leaves a legacy of love to her remaining children: Becky Rader (Larry) of Columbia, Karen Miller (Greg) of St. Charles, Karla Gable (Darrel) of St. Louis, and Julie Hone (Bill) of Fulton; as well as 12 grandchildren and 8 (soon to be 9) great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be officiated by Rev. Bill Nigus at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at Central Christian Church near Fulton. Burial will follow at Central Christian Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. until time of services at the church.
