Nola was born on September 17, 1939, at home in rural New Madrid County, MO the daughter of Noble Wilson and Irene (Reaves) McGuire who preceded her in death. On March 27, 1959, she was united in holy matrimony in St Louis, MO to Jack Garner who preceded her in death on September 18, 1986.
Nola was a stay-at-home mother until September 1970, when she began her teaching career at the Missouri School for the Deaf in Fulton, MO, retiring in September 1995. Her desire to serve others was also reflected through her membership of the First Presbyterian Church, Callaway County Friends of the Library, Chapter DY of the PEO Sisterhood, Kingdom of Callaway Historical Society, Chamber of Commerce Ambassador, Callaway Hospital Ladies Auxiliary, volunteer at the Presbyterian Manor, served on the Board of Advisors for Presbyterian Manor and as a member of the Callaway County Chamber of Commerce. She also worked part-time at William Woods University Logo Store, Smockingbird’s Gift Shop and wrote “coffee talk” for the Fulton Sun for several years, beginning in August 1991.
Survivors include: her three children, Jeanie Buschjost (Greg) of Fulton, MO, Jackie Garner of Columbia, MO and George Garner of Fulton, MO; seven grandchildren, Benjamin Buschjost (Megan), Sara Schlueter (Ryan), Kyle Mauzey (Ryan), India Cox (Zach), Sean Luetkemeyer, Alex Garner (Maddie) and Logan Garner; eight great- grandchildren, Jocelyn and Avery Buschjost, Jackson and Brooks Mauzey, Eli, Olivia and Harper Schlueter and Archie Cox; three sisters, Louise Richey, Judy Wells and Ginger Fondren and several nieces, nephews, extended family and many dear friends. She was also preceded in death by one infant brother, George McGuire and one sister, Neda Bansbach.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 15, 2024, from 3:00 pm – 4:00 pm at First Presbyterian Church in Fulton, MO. Memorial service will follow at 4:00 pm at the church with long-time family friend, Paul Stingley delivering the eulogy and Rev. Rob Dalton officiating. Inurnment will be held privately at a later date at Hillcrest Cemetery, Fulton, MO.
