Kevin was born on April 12, 1954, in Quincy, IL the son of Harold and Dortha (Sommers) Flynn who preceded him in death. Kevin was the third of four siblings; he had an older brother, Craig, An older sister, Deborah and a younger sister, Denise. Growing up, Kevin enjoyed fishing, mushroom hunting and spending time at his family’s farm. Kevin attended Fulton High School (’72) where he was engaged in student government and played basketball. After High School, Kevin attended Westminster College and was an active member in SAE. Kevin made the hard decision to turn down an athletic scholarship for basketball from an out of state university in order to attend college closer to his family. Kevin graduated from Westminster College in 1976 with a degree in Political Science.
Kevin would go on to use his degree to work a variety of jobs, ranging from his time as a manager at the “The Sport Café” in Fulton, to selling cars for Joe Machens. Since 2004, Kevin could be found at Westlakes Ace Hardware helping customers solve their home problems, especially when it came to paint. Regardless of his position, Kevin dedicated himself to his work and loved being able to help others. The best example of this was his position as a rescue and recovery diver for Callaway County. Kevin, a certified scuba diver, would assist the local community by retrieving objects and/or loved ones from lakes and quarries around the area. Kevin took pride in his work, and he was always focused on putting others needs above his.
In 1990, Kevin married Carolyn Landrum and they would go on to have three children, Harold Alexander, Sean Eric and Annie Elizabeth. Kevin was a kind and compassionate father, who loved to cook and spend time with his children. Kevin taught his children how to fish, drive and (most importantly) the love of St. Louis Cardinals Baseball.
With facial hair that ranged from a mustache to a full mountain man beard, the one thing that always stayed the same about Kevin was his smile. Kevin loved to smile, and he loved to make others smile. Kevin never met a stranger, and he had an aura that brought people together. Kevin was beloved by many people throughout the community of Fulton, and he will be missed dearly by all.
