John Joseph DeSmit

John was born on January 15, 1964, in Kewanee, IL the son of James and Donna (Mahaffey) DeSmit. On November 12, 2013, he was united in marriage to Teresa Daume in Fulton, MO. John enjoyed attending Living Hope Church in Jefferson City, MO. He retired from Ameren Missouri – Callaway Plant on September 1, 2021, as a mechanic. He also was a home builder for several years around the Callaway County area. He was a “Mr. Fix-It”, loved to tinker and share his knowledge by teaching the younger generation on how to fix and build things. There wasn’t anything that was too big or too small to work on, he enjoyed and sought out all projects at every opportunity.

Survivors include: his wife, Teresa DeSmit of the home; his mother, Donna DeSmit of Kewanee, IL; one son Lucas DeSmit of Vero Beach, FL; one daughter, Katherine DeSmit of Vero Beach, FL; one step-son, Jared Stieferman (Mackenzie) of Jefferson City, MO; two step-daughters, Terri Rimert (Allen) of Tebbets, MO and Megan Jones (Derek) of Fulton, MO; six brothers, Kenneth DeSmit (Joann) of Kewanee, IL, Douglas DeSmit (Sue) of Greenwood, IN, Peter DeSmit (Liz) of Bridgewater, VA, Matthew DeSmit (Shana) of Centerton, AR, Thomas DeSmit (Daina) of Wichita, KS and David DeSmit (Teressa) of Columbia, MO; two sisters, Cathie Jenkins (Douglas) of Lacon, IL and Debbie Lasky (Richard) of Cape Girardeau, MO; four grandchildren, Case Rimert, Hunter Rimert, Landon Jones and Kynslea Jones; father-in-law, Al Daume (Christa) of Fulton, MO; brother-in-law, Jeff Daume (Barbra) of Kansas; sister-in-law Michelle Eversmeyer (Todd) of Milton, FL; an abundance of nieces and nephews and his best friend, Jason Salmons (Veronica) of Fulton, MO.

He was preceded in death by his father, James DeSmit.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 20, 2022, from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm at Debo Funeral Home in Fulton, MO. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, December 21, 2022, at 11:00 am at the funeral home with Rev Guy Thomas officiating.
