Carol was born on May 1, 1950 in Colorado Springs, CO the daughter of Martin and Esther (Copley) Kapsch who preceded her in death. On November 23, 1973, in Colorado Springs, CO she was united in marriage to Stephen Sowder.
Carol and Stephen lived in Colorado, Texas, Arkansas, and Missouri. Carol worked in various capacities with financial and investment entities, the federal government, case worker for disability claims, and substitute teacher at the Missouri School for the Deaf. She also served in various churches as Sunday School teacher, vocalist in the choir, interpreter for the deaf, and financial secretary.
Carol was a devoted wife, dedicated mother, and doting grandmother. She enjoyed time with family, music, dramatic productions, travel (especially cruises), visiting with friends, game nights, tracking investments, and gardening.
Carol is survived by her husband of 47 years, Stephen Sowder of the home; one son, Aaron Sowder (Elizabeth) of Waldorf, MD; one brother Dan Kapsch of Troy, OH; three grandchildren, Estalynn Ann Sowder, Stephen Paul Sowder and Joel Caleb Sowder; mother-in-law, Betty Sowder; sister-in-law, Sharon Sowder and brother-in-law, Scott Sowder, two nieces, one nephew, several cousins, her "roomies" and a host of friends.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 24, 2021 from 10:00 am – 11:00 am at Union Hill Baptist Church, 460 S Summit Dr, Holts Summit. Memorial service will follow at 11:00 am at the church with Rev, Martin Stukenborg, Rev. Frank Whitney and Rev. Bob Washington officiating.
