Betty was born on August 25, 1943 in Fulton, MO the daughter of Elgie Paul Wallace and Ruby Rae (Gilmore) Wallace who preceded her in death. On October 29, 1960, she was united in marriage to William David McAtee. She was a graduate of Fulton High School in 1961. After raising her two sons, Betty proudly returned to college and graduated from William Woods College in 1991 with a BS degree in education. She spent her career teaching in Fulton and New Bloomfield school district, before retiring. She was a faithful member of St Peter Catholic Church in Fulton, MO.
Betty's passion for genealogy was a lasting gift to us all. This interest lead her to active membership in numerous organizations including: Daughters of the American Revolution, Daughters of Colonial Wars, Colonial Dames of America, Daughters of the American Colonists, Sons and Daughters of the Pilgrims, Magna Charta Dames and Barons, Descendants of Early Quakers, The Plantegenent Society, United Daughters of the Confederacy, Society of Descendants of Knights of the Most Noble Order of the Garter, Sovereign Colonial Society Americans of Royal Descent, Society of the Descendants of Washington's Army at Valley Forge, The Order of Washington, National Society United States Daughters of 1812, Colonial Order of the Crown, The Continental Society Daughters of Indian Wars, and Sons and Daughters of the Colonial and Antebellum Bench Bar. Perhaps most importantly, Betty was a true daughter of Callaway County, MO.
Survivors include: her husband of 61 years, William “Bill” McAtee of the home; two sons, John McAtee (Sue) of Kirkwood, MO and Brian McAtee (Heather) of Burlington, IA; five grandchildren, Jack, Will, Anna Kathleen and Abigail; one sister, Kathryn Grigory (Clinton) and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Susie Harrison.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 26, 2022 from 10:00 am – 11:00 am at St Peter Catholic Church, Fulton, MO. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 am at the church with Fr Joseph Abah officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery in Fulton, MO.
