Alma was born in Perry, MO on November 1, 1941 to Levi Russel Walton and Vera Mae (Mahood) Walton.
She is survived by her grandson, Landon Lee Smith, grandaughter, Amanda Smith (Stephen) Tate, great grandson, Gabriel Lee Tate, Fulton, MO, brother, Russel Edward Walton, Perry, MO, sister, Dianna Sue (Charles White) Walton Baker, Mexico, MO, sister-in-law, Helen Ruth Harris Hall, Wentzville, MO, many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and her special friend, Don Knepp, Fulton, MO.
Along with her husband, Robert Lee Harris, Jr. she was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Pamela Sue Harris Smith, son-in-law, Richard Smith, father-in-law, R. Lee Harris, Sr., brother-in-law, Melvyn Hall and sister-in-law, Patricia Walton.
Alma attended Irvine School and graduated from Perry High School in 1959.
She was married to William Gabbett. They had one daughter, Pamela. On June 5, 1971 Alma married Robert Lee Harris, Jr. at Unity Baptist Church, Fulton, MO. Formerly known as Toledo, MO. They lived on the Harris farm two miles southeast of the Church. He adopted Pamela as his daughter in June 1972. Robert Lee Harris, Jr. passed away April 20, 1994. Alma stayed on the farm enjoying fishing, deer hunting, gardening and the fresh country air until she moved to town in 2019.
Alma was employed by Hickman’s IGA, Perry, MO, Farmer’s Bank, Bowling Green, MO and for 36 years at Callaway Bank, Fulton, MO. She was also a volunteer for the Central Fire District Auxiliary and treasurer for the Central Callaway Fire District for 20 years and treasurer for Unity Baptist Church for many years.
Her hobbies included painting, needlework, sewing, puzzles and playing pitch. On Wednesday everything came to a halt, including Dr. appointments to play Scrabble with the church ladies. She also enjoyed traveling with her special friend, Don Knepp.
The ‘apple of her eye’ was her great grandson, Gabe Tate. She went to his Dr. appointments and every activity he was involved in.
Alma’s last four months was spent at her home with her devoted granddaughter, Amanda caring for her. She was assisted by her husband Stephen, Alma’s grandson, Landon and her sister, Dianna. Her last days were made easier by her Kindred Hospice caregivers.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Friday, January 14, 2022 at Debo Funeral Home, Fulton, MO. Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Monday, January 17, 2022 at Unity Baptist Church East of Fulton, MO. Burial will be in Unity Baptist Cemetery.
