Houghton, Ronald Warden, age 68, passed away June 11, 2013 in Santa Ana, CA of Respiratory Failure. Born to Warden Houghton and Lucille Houghton in Des Moines, IA. He attended Roosevelt High School where as a senior he took the baseball team to the State baseball finals and was 1st team All City. He also played on the Nationwide Connie Mack team which played in the Lamar, CO Connie Mack World Series. He enlisted in the Navy in 1962 and then transferred to the Air Force serving in the Dental Corp until his discharge in 1967. On assignment to Offutt AFB in Nebraska, his superior officer asked if he played golf. Ron replied, No, but if it gets me out of work I can learn. Two years later he won the base championship and loved playing and watching golf from then on. November 22, 1968 he married ELyn Griffin. Ron moved from Iowa in 1970 and resided in Yorba Linda until his death. He attended Fullerton JC with an AA in Fine Arts and then attended Cal State Fullerton. After college he worked in furniture manufacturing before finding his home in automotive sales for 20 years until retiring in 2006. He spent his retirement playing golf 3 days a week with the Mens Club. Ron is survived by his wife of 45 years ELyn, his son Matthew, of Yorba Linda, CA; son Darin, daughter-in-law Emily, grandsons Gavin and Nolan of Placentia, CA; sister Patricia Woxell of Temecula, CA; sister Pamela Kelley of Aloha, OR and nieces, nephews, and many dear friends. Ron was a man of integrity and honesty with a large heart. He was generous to all he came in contact with, and his humor will be greatly missed. A viewing will be held from 4:00pm " 8:00pm Thursday, June 13, 2013 at McAulay & Wallace Mortuary, 18311 Lemon Dr. Yorba Linda, CA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to the charity of their own choosing.
