Robert Edward Shuff (Bob), passed away peacefully at home in Fullerton, CA on August 3, 2018, following a lengthy battle with cancer. He was born September 16, 1939, in Big Ugly Creek, West Virginia. Bob’s Family moved to Columbus, Ohio, where he attended Columbus Central High school and excelled in football and Track and Field. After high school he served in the Marine Corps and was stationed at Twenty-Nine Palms, CA, when he met the love of his life and future wife, Patricia Toy. They were married in Las Vegas, Nevada, on November 8, 1958. After an honorable discharge from the Marine Corps in 1960 Bob and Pat settled in Hawthorne, CA, where he attended El Camino Jr. College. He served as a volunteer on the Hawthorne Police Department for a year. In 1962 he began his apprenticeship training with Ironworkers local 433. It was here that he found his calling. He was Local 433's recording secretary from 1976-79. He worked his way up in the trade to field superintendent. Before he totally retired from the ironworkers he spent many years as an instructor in the apprenticeship program where he taught the trade that he loved so much. During this time he also earned a Bachelors degree from the National Labor College. He was not one to sit idle, and he was involved in many activities. When his children were young he was a Pop-Warner football coach and a Little League baseball coach. He was the president of the Republican Club of North Orange County in 2002-2003. During the years, he was one of Rep. Ed Royce’s delegates to the State Central Committee of the GOP and an alternate of Supervisor Shawn Nelson on the Orange County GOP Central Committee. During several elections, he supervised the Fullerton Republican HQ. He was also a big supporter of the Fullerton Republican Women, Federated. Bob and Pat visited most of the United States and several foreign countries. When the Minutemen Project began in Arizona, he was there. The purpose of the group was to assist the border patrol in stopping illegal entry into the country over the southern border. After a month in Arizona, the California Minutemen started organizing, and he spent many hours at the California-Mexico border. He gave talks at various organizations to inform people about what went on at the border. The HOPE support group at St. Jude Hospital was something that he enjoyed very much for many years. The wonderful people he met there gave him encouragement even after he was no longer able to attend the meetings. Bob was a storyteller. One of the support group members said he had heard the same story many times, but it was different each time. He was a good husband, father and grandpa who loved his family and praised them for their accomplishments but also gave them guidance when he felt they could use his wisdom. He was an honorable man who worked hard to provide well for his family and was proud of what he accomplished from his humble beginnings in a cabin in West Virginia. Bob was preceded in death by his parents Robert W. Shuff and Gladys Shuff (Meade), his brother Roger Shuff, his sister Betty Jamieson and his son Robert W. Shuff. He is survived by his loving wife Patricia Shuff, his sisters Linda Knight and Nettie Highfill, his daughters Teresa Trujillo(Joe), Katherine Simpson, and Susan Gapinski (Anthony) and his grandchildren Christopher Trujillo, Stephen, Thomas, Michael, Sarah and Robert Gapinski and Shane Simpson.
