Mark Eric Green tragically passed away on Tuesday, August 23, in Fullerton, California at the age of 59. His life was cut-short due to hypertension and heart disease that ultimately resulted in a heart attack.
Mark was born on May 18, 1963, in Los Angeles, California. He was adopted as a baby by Leslie and Ruth Green, who lived in Whittier, California. Mark grew up on a small farm surrounded by a menagerie of animals, including three dogs named Susie, Trixie and Betsy Ross, as well as his beloved pot-bellied pig, Spot. Mark attended Whittier High School, where he was known as the life of the party, and graduated in 1981. Following in his father’s footsteps, he went to work for several branches of Home Savings of America. It was at one of these branches that he met Dorene Rodriguez, who would become his wife.
Mark and Dorene were married in 1987 and stayed together for nearly 30 years. They had a home in Whittier, two children, Amanda and Justin, and three dachshunds, Chuck, Fred and Max. Mark continued his career in financial institutions, working at Quaker City Bank, Broadway Federal Bank, and American First Credit Union. Mark developed a love of NASCAR racing, and spent his weekends watching races held throughout the country and attending races with his family at various tracks throughout California. One of Mark’s highlights was completing “The Racing Experience” where he drove ten laps in a stock car around the California Speedway in Fontana. He shared that this was one of the “hardest things [he’d] ever done,” but left the track with a smile on his face.
After his divorce, Mark moved to Summerwood Apartments in La Habra, California, and was promoted to Director of Real Estate Services at American First Credit Union just a few months before his death. Mark’s neighbors at Summerwood and his colleagues at American First Credit Union would be his closest community of friends in his final years.
Mark is survived by family, friends and colleagues, who know that he loved nothing more than to watch a race, jam out to classic rock, and crack open an ice cold beer.
