Lorraine E. Gerni, age 86, of Placentia, California, passed away on Sunday, November 19, 2017, at her residence. She will be interred in Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Schenectady, New York, and a memorial service will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that her friends make donations in her memory to the charities of their choice. Born September 1, 1931, in Bangor, Pennsylvania, Lorraine was the daughter of Isaiah and Violet Resh. She married Daniel E. Setzer, with whom she had two daughters, Lori McNaught of Bloomington, Indiana, and Dawn Setzer of Tujunga, California, who survive. Following Dan’s death, she married Alfred C. Gerni, who preceded her in death. Lorraine earned her bachelor’s degree in English from Indiana University in 1977. During her wide-ranging career, she worked as a reporter for the Pharos-Tribune newspaper in Logansport, Indiana; for the dean of the business school at Notre Dame University in South Bend, Indiana; and for the loss-control department of Beaver Insurance Company in Diamond Bar, California. Following her retirement she became active in the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at California State University, Fullerton, where for many years she served as editor of the Chronicle newsletter.
