Linda Pomeroy's life story is filled with remarkable milestones, from her early years in Mexico City to her educational achievements and personal challenges and accomplishments. She was known by all as a loyal friend and confidant. Linda was blessed to have an amazing family and extended family that cherished her.
Born in 1944, in Mexico City, Linda embraced the vibrant culture of her birthplace, enjoying dinner and dancing with her beautiful curly hair and sparkling green eyes, at popular spots like the Belvedere Room, Los Globos, and the Gitanerias. Her love for history and world travel shaped her perspective and experiences.
Linda's commitment to service and involvement in extracurricular activities began in her school years. She was a Freshman princess at The American School Foundation, in the Service Organization for three years, in Chorus, a Varsity Cheerleader/Pep Squad, a Layout Editor of the school yearbook, and an intramural athlete in volleyball, softball, basketball, and track and field.
A defining moment in her youth was a severe car accident at the age of 16 resulting in a prolonged hospital stay with a broken back. This challenging time was marked by the constant support of friends and family who lined up to be able to hold her hand in the hospital. It was during this period that one of her brother's friends began to develop feelings for her.
Despite the setback from the accident, Linda's determination and intelligence shone through. She graduated from the American School Foundation at 16, a year early due to her academic prowess. She continued her education at the University of the Americas, earning a teaching degree by the age of 20.
In April 1965, Linda married the love of her life Kerry Ritz Pomeroy, marking the beginning of a new chapter in her life. The couple moved to the United States, settling in Whittier, California. Kerry's job, led them eventually to San Diego, where they welcomed friends and family into their home with cocktail and dinner parties, creating a warm and hospitable environment. Her firstborn son Kerry Pomeroy Jr was born there in 1969. Her young family moved to La Miranda, CA, and bought their first home in which her daughter Francesca Pomeroy was born in 1980. She was thrilled to be able to meet her first Granddaughter Sophia born in San Francisco in 2019. It was the birth of Sophia that many attribute to giving her additional strength in fighting her third bout of Cancer, 6 years ago. She fought Cancer bravely and with such grace for over 15 years. All Nurses and Doctors who worked with her noted her positive attitude, witty repartee, and lovely personality. Her laugh was contagious and she lit up any room she was in.
Linda’s love for service continued in her joining and being an extremely active member of the American Association of University Women, YMCA, and Philanthropic Education Organization, which are beginning a scholarship in her name. She was an avid hostess with First Friday, La Cuisine, and book club group. She loved to read and travel, especially her beloved yearly sister reunion trips that culminated with a sister and daughter's trip to New York City in 2023. She began her career as an Independent Interpreter in 1987 and joined the OC Superior Court in 2005 after years of service. Coworkers describe her as dedicated and passionate in her role, maintaining her career relationships well after retirement, in 2020.
Linda Pomeroy's story is a testament to resilience, passion, and the power of love and support in overcoming life's challenges. Her journey from a lively Mexico City to a fulfilling life in the United States was filled with service, education, and love. This paints a vivid picture of a woman who embraced life's opportunities and overcame obstacles with grace and strength.
