After being honorably discharged from the Army following the Korean War, Gene went west and worked for his brother Orbie in his printing company. He spent a year learning the craft of printing before venturing out on his own. He created a successful business which he ran for nearly 50 years in the Printing (Lithography) industry. Gene was very innovative, first working with his customers in the forms business to develop master layouts to speed up the process preparing and printing the forms. He also worked directly with VISA International for over 30 years. In the 8-‘s it was his innovation and creative abilities that helped VISA create the first blanket of security on VISA cards at that time. At the direction of VISA he was asked to come up with a security feature to be used in conjunction with the VISA logo. His understanding of print helped him to develop the micro-print which VISA embraced and incorporated into the design of the VISA logo of the 80’s and 90’s.
Gene and Sandra moved to Canyon Lake in 1982. They had a beautiful home right on the water. Gene loved boating and always had a boat for his children and his grandchildren, and they all spent many happy hours visiting and enjoying all the water-sports. His son Mike and daughter Sondra and his grandson Aaron were very proficient water skiers and wake boarders and he enjoyed watching them. He welcomed and enjoyed his family and their friends coming to the lake, and the family will cherish those memories of weekends and holidays spent with Gene and Sandy enjoying the lake.
Gene enjoyed early mornings sitting on the back porch with a cup of coffee and his binoculars scanning the lake and hillsides watching the boats and wildlife and enjoying the view from his porch.
Gene also loved fishing, and spent many hours sitting on his dock catching Bass and Catfish either by himself or with his children and grandchildren. He was also an avid model train collector, and was very talented and enjoyed building the miniature structures for his model railroad displays even building a train room above his garage when he had a complete model train town set-up.
Dad we love you, and you’ll be missed, we’ll see you again!
