Irene Pitts, 95, passed away on July 10, 2010 at her home in Brea. Irene was born on October 6, 1914 in Cherry Creek, Arkansas. She was the oldest daughter of Albert and Mary Johnson. She completed her education at Cherry Creek and on October 27, 1937 she married Clyde C. (Tom) Pitts of Goshen, Arkansas. Tom and Irene farmed on the Pitts family farm until they moved to Brea, CA in 1943. They moved to California with other family members to work in factories related to the war industry. They fell in love with California, and rather than return to Arkansas after the war with other family, they settled in Brea, and Irene lived there for 66 years. Irene was primarily a homemaker, but also worked in the citrus industry on a seasonal basis. She is survived by her son, Curtis Pitts(Barbara) of Brea. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren, Karen Adnams(Barry) of Villa Park, Steve Pitts(Laura) of Orange, and Susan Cannon(Tim) of Anaheim Hills. In addition she is survived by her adored great grandchildren, Katie Adnams, Caroline Adnams, Charlotte Adnams, Christopher Adnams, Brittany Pitts, Trevor Pitts, Hunter Pitts, Madeline Cannon and Natalie Cannon. Finally, she is survived by her sister, Lois Shipley of Springdale, Arkansas. She was predeceased by her husband, Tom, and her grandson, Michael Pitts. The graveside service will be at 11AM on Wednesday July 14, 2010 at Loma Vista in Fullerton. The family requests than any memorials be directed to either Hospice Care of California, 377 E. Chapman Ave, Ste 280, Placentia 92870 or to a charity of choice. The family also would like to express their deep appreciation to Julie Orleans for the sensitive, kind care she provided to Irene in her last days.
