Evie died in her sleep of natural causes, at home on October 5, 2018, just short of her 98th birthday. The trumpets are indeed sounding in heaven as she made her way there to be with her Lord and Saviour. She is survived by her two sons, Kurt Pollock of Fullerton, California and Randy Pollock of Hailey, Idaho, and was preceded in death by her husband Roy Pollock, in 2010. They were in love and happily married for 67 years. She is also survived by her younger brother, Gerald Vander Wall of Grand Rapids, Michigan. In addition to their two sons, she and Roy had 5 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Evie was born in New Era, Michigan in 1920 to John P Vander Wall and Gertrude Vander Wall (Groenink), and graduated from Shelby High School (Shelby, Michigan) in 1936. She attended nursing school in Muskegon, Michigan and earned a four-year RN nursing degree. In 1953 Evie and Roy, with their two sons, moved from Muskegon, Michigan to Fullerton, California where they bought a house in Fullerton. She lived in that house for 65 years, until her death. She and Roy were active members of the Anaheim Christian Reformed Church in the 1950’s. In 1962, they became members of the Evangelical Free Church of Fullerton and had many dear friends among the congregation. She was a practicing RN for Dr. Emmett “Red” Pettis, MD and later on Dr. Frank Amato, MD in Fullerton, California for many years, until she retired at 65. Evelyn was a vivacious person who loved to visit and talk with everyone, and had many friends and enjoyed entertaining and volunteering. She was the President of the PTA at the Fern Drive elementary school. She was a member of the choir at church and sang in a quartet. For a long time, she was famous for her home-made lemon pies. She loved to go to the beach during the warm, Southern California summers and instilled a love of the beach in her two sons. The family would like to thank Judy and Evans Unson who were Evie’s caregivers in the last years of her life, enabling her to live in her own home until she passed away. A graveside service will be held on October 22, 2018 at 130pm, Loma Vista Memorial Park, 701 East Bastanchury Rd. Fullerton. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to World Vision in honor of Evelyn Pollock, https://www.worldvision.org.
