Edward Darragh Smithers “TED” Born on April 14, 1924 in Minneapolis, MN. Ted grew up in Winnetka, IL until he joined the US Army at the age of 19. He was wounded during battle and received a Purple Heart as well as a Bronze Star for his bravery. He met his wife, Joan at the University of Illinois where he graduated with a degree in Economics. Joan and Ted were married on December 26, 1946 and would have been married 70 years next month. Ted had a long career in Sales. His first job out of college was selling Pabst Blue Ribbon Beer. He then became an Executive with Westinghouse. After many years and frequent household moves, Ted and Joan moved to La Habra. He started his own business as a Manufacturer’s Representative and Distributor in the Electronics Industry.After retiring, Ted and Joan moved to Chico, CA in 1992. Ted spent his time going to the gym, playing Senior Softball and Bridge. In October of 2014, He returned to OC where he lived at Sunrise Senior Living in Yorba Linda. Ted is survived by his wife, Joan, his daughters, Kathi Shaheen (Ron) and Tracy Williams (Gregg), son Dave Smithers, grandchildren, Brian Duke and Haley Williams.A small family service is being held at Riverside Memorial Cemetery with luncheon to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to consider a donation to Wounded Worrier Project in memory of his name.
