Richard Allen Burr was born February 9th, 1947 to Mary and Eldon “Cecil” Burr. Richard grew up in Ft. Collins, CO and was part of the 1st graduating class of Poudre High School. After graduating high school, he attended technical school where he reconnected with his wife and mother of his children, Dalene Davis - Burr. Shortly after reconnecting, they were married. He was drafted into the Army in 1969 and then went on to proudly serve his country for 20 years. While in the Army he was deployed to Germany, Korea, and other bases throughout the US.They welcomed their only son Brian while deployed in Hawaii and shortly after welcomed their daughter Michelle while deployed in Arizona. His favorite overseas deployments were in Germany where he got to experience German beer and their culture. He spent his weekends traveling throughout Germany honing his photography skills.
After retirement in 1989, the family moved back to their hometown of Fort Collins. Shortly and after retirement, he started working at CSU where he remained for 20 years until his final retirement.On his time off, he enjoyed taking his boat out with family members and his only grandson Tyler. He married his longtime companion Elizabeth MacKenzie in November of 2023. He was also particularly fond of taking drives with Elizabeth through the mountains and especially Estes Park/RMNP.
Richard passed away peacefully February 19th, 2025 in Fort Collins at the age of 78 after his long battle with health related issues.
Richard is preceded in death by his father, Eldon (1958); his mother, Mary (2018); wife, Dalene Burr (2/19/1992); and his brother, Gary Laws (2022). He is survived by his son, Brian; daughter, Michelle; wife, Elizabeth; grandson, Tyler; his brothers, Steve Burr and Scott Laws; and many nieces and nephews.
The celebration of life will be held at Allnutt Funeral Service Drake Chapel on Tuesday February 25th, 2025 at 2pm.
