Phil was born in Lamar, CO on July 20, 1953 to Virgil and Georgina Brown, the third of four children. After the death of his father, his mother moved the family to Fort Collins in 1962.
Phil graduated from Poudre High School and advanced his education through trade schools to become a skilled HVAC&R technician.
Phil worked in the field for 35 years and traveled to many parts of CO, in addition to surrounding states. He loved photography and took photos of the country and wildlife he saw along the way. The travel also afforded him the opportunity to meet many new friends.
Phil met his wife, Marlene Hoem “Mars” in 1990, at which time he became a loved member of her family. Together they traveled to Aruba, Taiwan, Hawaii and several other states.
Phil and Mars participated in the local dart leagues and became a big part of the dart family for several years. When the dart days were over they became avid NASCAR fans and for the last 12 years attended the races in Las Vegas.
Phil was a genuine soul and lived life to its fullest. He was skilled in other fields, as well, and became the “go to guy” when repairs were needed. His greatest joy was helping and teaching friends and family some of those skills.
Phil is survived by his wife, an estranged son, two stepchildren & their spouses, two step grandchildren, one brother, one sister, two sisters-in-law and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
The family wishes to thank the medical community that cared for Phil during his hard fought battle through the years. The loving and respectful care he received at MCR and PVH during his final days cannot be measured.
In lieu of flowers please donate to a charity in Phil’s name.
An open house Celebration of Life will be held Feb. 9, 2019, 5-8 pm at Ryan’s Sports Grill in Fort Collins.
