Pam was born in Shelbyville, Indiana on August 14, 1955, to Marjorie Phyllis (Boucher) and Donald William Asher, who later divorced. Upon their marriage in 1962, she became the daughter of Harvey M. Purman.
Pam graduated early from Highland High School in Highland, Illinois, class of 1973. She married James Sumner and they had 2 children who survived her. They later divorced. A subsequent marriage also ended in divorce.
Pam graduated from Belleville Area College (SWIC) in the late 90s with an associate's degree in Arts. Throughout her adult working life, she made many long-time friends at the Walmart in Highland, Illinois and in Ft. Collins, Colorado and at Head Start in Alton, Illinois, and The Boys and Girls Clubs in Bethalto, Illinois and Ft. Collins, Colorado.
Pam moved to Loveland, Colorado in 2004, where her deep, abiding love for the mountains began. Her summers HAD to include as many camping trips as possible, many with family and some in solitude. She worked at the Walmart in Ft. Collins for a short time before starting her job at the Ft Collins Boys and Girls Club. In 2006, she met David M. Rud at the Black Steer on N. Lincoln in Loveland and fell in love! They married at the Boys and Girls Club with her “kids” officiating and celebrating her happiness.
Pam’s life of service to troubled youth was a passionate gift she bestowed lovingly and generously and it reaped a bountiful harvest of grateful hearts and thankful life-long relationships. As was attested to by many in a Facebook outpouring, her dedication affected and, in fact, changed forever, countless lives. She ended her working career at the Walmart in Ft. Collins where she was loved by her co-workers who favored her with frequent visits, phone calls, and texts and offered meals and encouragement through her last days.
She is survived by her husband, David M. Rud of Ft. Collins; parents, Harvey M. and Marjorie P. Purman of Loveland, CO; children, James D. Sumner of Alhambra, IL, and Melissa J. Sumner of Highland, IL; step-daughters, Kristie Rud of Greeley, CO and Samantha (Brian) Rudy of Greeley, CO; siblings, Cathy L. (Scott K.) Shaw of Highland, IL, Brenda Asher Baker of Indianapolis, IN, Tara L. (Ted) Morrison of Loveland, CO, and Kara K. (Brian) Warden of Steamboat Springs, CO; grandchildren, Danika Dale, Brendan Zeisset, Katrina Sumner, Coltin Zeisset, and James and Landon Rudy; great-grandchildren Weston Randall and Lola Randall; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and in-laws. We will all miss her frequent laughter and perpetual smile. She is preceded in death by her brothers, Scott M. Purman and DeWayne M. Purman.
Arrangements are being made by Allnutt Funeral Service in Ft. Collins. A Celebration of Life will be held at The Boys and Girls Club in Ft. Collins on Saturday, June 8, 2024, from 1:00-4:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the positive youth development program or organization in your area.
