Marjorie Mae Havens was born on December 12, 1930 in Marysville, Kansas to James Joseph Farrell and Marguerite Mae Koppes. She passed away at age 90 on July 12, 2021 in Loveland, CO, where she lived at the Good Samaritan Village, Loveland campus.
Marjorie was kind, patient and loving. A simple woman, she enjoyed a great conversation, getting to know someone through good old fashioned talking over a cup of black coffee, sharing stories, life experiences and shared values. She loved to laugh and didn’t mind a friendly prank. She dearly valued her family, sharing quality time was Marjorie’s most treasured value. Holidays were her favorite, listening to music, celebrating, gathering for cherished meals and family togetherness. Laughter was at the forefront of these gatherings. Marjorie was the quintessential homemaker.
She was a devout Catholic and took great pride in her involvement in church activities over the many years and various parishes she belonged to. She often volunteered and revered the Catholic church. From Kansas, to Nebraska, Colorado, Arizona and Colorado again, she truly felt most at home participating in her religious activities.
As a child, Marjorie loved to dance and listen to music and in high school was a proud drum majorette. She loved going to events with her older sisters Delores and Phyllis. The Farrell sisters were jovial and happy women and enjoyed their sisterhood bond immensely. All her life, Marjorie adored big band and swing music. Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman and Duke Ellington were some of her favorites, but Tommy Dorsey, Rosemary Clooney and Nat King Cole stole her heart too. Marjorie was a very talented whistler and you could often hear her whistling and catch her dancing throughout her home. With a smile on her face and a twinkle in her eye, shoulders shrugging to the music she was fondly enjoying. Simple joy!
In 1950 at age 20, Marjorie met Hugh Havens and married on August 25th in Marysville, Kansas. She adored orange blossom trees and her bouquet and wedding flowers included these sweet, fragrant flowers. So simple and pure. Marge and Hugh proudly had five children, Jim, Jeff, Mark, Phillip and Amy over the span of 39 years. Residing in Kansas, Nebraska and Colorado until their retirement, which took them to Sun City, AZ. Marjorie moved back to Colorado to be closer to her children in her later years.
She was a loving wife, proud mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Marjorie is preceded in death by her husband Hugh and son Mark. She is survived by children Jim, Jeff, Phil and Amy, her grandchildren Jessica, Jeni, Tom, Dave, Casey and Ian and her great grandchildren Connor, Bailey, Cadence, Caysen, Samantha and Oakland James.
