Leta Lee Horn, 81, of Loveland passed away on February 10, 2012. She was born on May 20, 1930 in Morrill NE, to James S. and Ruie (Austin) Griffith and graduated from Scottsbluff High School. She married Dale Horn of McGrew NE in 1947. After years of living in the McGrew/Scottsbluff area, they moved their family of four to Loveland in 1970. Leta was among the early “wonder women” - raising her children while working at Hewlett Packard with a career spanning more than 25 years. After retirement, she continued in the workforce, holding positions at Colorado Memory Systems and Hach.
She was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Loveland, serving in St. Martha’s Guild and contributing to many other volunteer activities. Leta was a long-term and very active member of Take Off Pounds Sensibly (TOPS), Keep Off Pounds Sensibly (KOPS), and Silver Sneakers. A woman of many talents, she sang, played the piano, painted and was an excellent seamstress. She was a great cook who also enjoyed baking and decorating cakes and gardening. She made the best Kosher Dill Pickles in the world. She loved flowers and bright colors in all things, particularly clothes. She bowled, read, played cards and loved to socialize with her many friends. Among her prized possessions were her vast collection of owls and her beloved Springer Spaniels, starting with Brownie who was followed years later by Camby, Tinkerbell and aptly named Pretty PEPPY Puppy.
She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandma. Leta is survived by her husband and best friend of 64 years, Dale; her children Vicki Betton and husband Lee of Alexandria, VA; Randy Horn of Loveland; Danny Horn and his wife Karen of Cape Cod, MA; and Lori Horn of Loveland. She also leaves behind grandchildren Ashley and Jonathon Betton; Alan Lee and Lana Scott and her husband Jonathan; Sylvie and Mark Horn, and great-grandchild, Olivia (who never failed to bring a big smile to Leta’s face) and her pets Phoebe and Peppy. Leta is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Ivan Griffith, and her grand-kitty Spedungle. A visitation and funeral service will be held at All Saints Episcopal Church 3448 N. Taft Ave, Loveland Friday, February 17, with visitation from 10-11 and the service starting at 11 a.m.
