Dr. John Russell McDavid passed on August 26 of this year in Fort Collins, Colorado. Russ was born August, 1943 to Fred and Dorothy McDavid in Springfield, IL. In June of 1968 he married Dottie Schroeder.
He is survived by his wife Dottie, their two children, Wendy Meyer and Brett McDavid, four grandchildren, and his sisters Sally McDavid of Illinois and Lee McDavid of Vermont, two nephews and two nieces.
Russell received his undergraduate degree from the University of Denver, his Master’s degree from Bradley University, and his Doctorate of Education from Indiana University. He began his 35 year career in public school education in Peoria, Illinois. He was a graduate of, and later a teacher and counselor at Richwoods High School and assistant principal then principal at Woodruff High School. He moved with his family to Colorado Springs, Colorado in 1982, where he was the principal at Sproul Jr. High, principal at Janitell Jr. High, principal, principal at Widefield High School, then moved to the central office for the school district and retired as the assistant superintendent for the Widefield School District.
Russell was a great lover of fishing and camping in the great Colorado outdoors, as well as, traveling by train and model railroading. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Colorado Trout Unlimited, coloradotu.org.
A private burial will be held September 15, 2020 with immediate family. A celebration of life will be held sometime in the future. We would like to thank all of the wonderful staff at Centre Avenue Health and Rehabilitation and Pathways Hospice for their excellent care and support.
