She was born in Blaina, a small township in Nuckolls Nebraska, though she would tell you she was born in Angus. Her date of birth was also a matter of debate, so far as she was concerned, but records will show her life began on August 24th, 1931.
Jenny was a feisty one. She loved life and adventure. She was fun loving and fun to be around. She set an example of how a life should be lived and instilled in her family the values of family, fun, and faith. Jenny will be fondly remembered for her kind nature and the unconditional love she had for her family.
In the 1930s, Nebraska was severely affected by the Dust Bowl, prompting the DeVore family to relocate when Jenny was quite young. She grew up in Northern Colorado with two brothers, Gene & Darrell, and two sisters, Arlene & Sharon. Jenny rode her Shetland Pony Prince to school. She and her siblings liked to dress him up in a hat and galoshes. As was common in those days, she left high school early to go on to greater things. She graduated from Cosmetology School and worked as a licensed cosmetologist for more than 70 years, making the world a brighter and more beautiful place, one client at a time.
Jenny was very kind and welcoming to others, never judging another. She was very social and loved hanging out with her girlfriends. She loved being at the center of things and was most definitely afflicted with FOMO (fear of missing out). Jenny was very patriotic and was a longtime member of the American Legion, the VFW, and the Roving Moose. She was raised a Baptist and always a Christian, attending services at Fort Collins Vineyard Church for more than 20 years. Jenny was a beautician and loved all things prim and proper and pretty…but she also had this incredible adventurous, outdoorsy spirit. She was an avid hunter, and she enjoyed fishing, 4 wheeling, snowmobiling, and traveling in the RV. And Jenny loved riding motorcycles. She did enjoy less venturesome activities such as sewing in her younger years, and later, she got really into Diamond Art.
More than anything in the world, Jenny loved her family. She included them in all her adventures and together they made lots of fun-loving memories. She especially enjoyed the adventures she shared and memories she made with her grandkids. Her most treasured times were those she spent with all her family. She will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and all who were blessed to know her.
Jenny is survived by her daughters Sandy Michaels (John) and Dianna Niesent (Alan); grandchildren Brannon Niesent (Stephanie), Chad Niesent (Michele), Eric Niesent, and Tammy Sickles (Christian); and by her great-grandchildren, Brody & Tessa Sickles; Jordan, Nate, & C.J. Niesent; and Kaitlyn, Lauren, Lizzy, & Jackson Niesent. Also surviving Jenny are her brothers, Darrell DeVore (Debbie Grass) and Gene DeVore (Judy). She is preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Bender, sisters Sharon K. Sullivan and Arlene Hosack (and husband Glenn), and by her father, Marvin DeVore and mother, Berneta Carroll.
A Graveside Service will be held and Jenny will be placed to rest on Friday, April 11th, 2025 at 2:00pm at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Fort Collins. A Gathering of Family & Friends will follow at Dianna's home. Memories of Jenny and words of compassion for her family are welcome at resthavencolorado.com.
