Jim was born in Denver, Colorado in 1938, as a 4th generation Coloradoan. He was a son of the late Lee and Lillian Smith. Jim graduated from South High School in Denver in 1956, and attended CU Denver. While at South High School, he met his lifelong sweetheart Carole. Jim loved and served his country as a National Guardsman with the US Army. Jim retired from AT&T. Jim had a strong passion for Masonry, and was dedicated to doing good works through his membership for children through Masonry, Scottish Rite, and El Jebel Shriners. He also worked to help provide scholarships for graduating high school students through Masonry.
Surviving Jim is his wife of 61 years, Carole; beloved children, Patrick, Jeffrey, Kimberly, Jackie, Pamela and Sven; his grandchildren, Megan, Rebecca, Derek, Chasten, Paulina and Dylan James and great grandchildren, Sivar, Amrielle, James and Clayton.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children.
