Glenn Almond Birth, beloved husband and father, died in his sleep the morning of December 13, 2011 in Loveland, Colorado. He was the owner of Glenn’s Drywall. His years of undiagnosed sleep apnea, resulting in congestive heart failure, took their toll.
Born Glenn Almond Birth in Sumner, Nebraska, to Elmer and Mary (Sample) Birth, Glenn was the second of four children. His father was a rancher/farmer. Glenn grew up with a strong work ethic. He attended Shelton Academy in Nebraska, where he met his first wife, Hilda Sylvia Simon. They married in Scottsbluff on June 1, 1943. Glenn was drafted into the US Army in April of 1945 and served at Camp Crowder and Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri. He was pulled off the line three hours before deployment to Japan in December of 1945. He was then told “The war is over. We need farmer’s more than soldiers. Go home to your family.” Their daughter, Lela was three years old and their son, Garry, was an infant.
After farming in Nebraska and ranching in Wyoming, the Birth family moved to Loveland in 1953. Glenn worked at a dairy in Berthoud and broom factory and trailer factory in Campion. At age 37, he started a new career in drywall, eventually starting his own business, Glenn’s Drywall. He retired in the 1990’s after 35 years to take care of his wife, Sylvia. She died in November 2000, after nearly 58 years of marriage. On November 3, 2002, Glenn married Norma Jean Enevoldson. The marriage ended after one year. His love of horses and riding in the mountains was his greatest pleasure; he had four beautiful paint horses, and was very popular with the lady riders. He met Odette Hammond at a singles event at Copper Mountain. They married October 21, 2007. He was a member of the Campion Seventh-day Adventist Church since 1954 and served as a deacon for 54 years.
